THREE GOOD REASONS TO FIRE YOUR TRAINER

THREE GOOD REASONS TO FIRE YOUR TRAINER

There are a lot of great trainers in the world. There are some pretty terrible trainers too. What’s worse is every time I see a terrible trainer, there is a customer who doesn’t realize they have a terrible trainer. Here are three good reasons to find a new one.

If you decide you need to find a new trainer, please read this blog entry as well. >>> https://gettrainedseries.blogspot.com/2018/01/five-things-to-ask-your-trainer.html

1. Freestyling

Your trainer should always have a plan based on your needs. If every week is completely different than the last, it’s very likely that he/she hasn’t completed this task which should always be required. This doesn’t mean there won’t be any changes to your workouts. As a trainer, if I noticed your stability was fairly weak during your barbell bench press this week, next week we may regress to another pressing exercise and add some more core stability exercises (just an example… ). But, your sets and reps will likely be very similar in order to cater to your goals. If you’re doing random exercises, using a lot of machines, and spending more than 5 minutes on the treadmill, FIRE YOUR TRAINER!!

2. Distance

If you decide you need to find a new trainer, please read this blog entry as well. >>> https://gettrainedseries.blogspot.com/2018/01/five-things-to-ask-your-trainer.html

A trainer's job is not done at the end of your one hour session. A real trainer wants results and a real trainer knows it takes more than holding your hand for an hour to get them. They should be giving you “homework”. They should be laying out your exercise routine for the rest of the week.  You want them to follow up with you at least once or twice per week. If you text them with a question, you shouldn’t get that answer five hours later because you probably thought of the question when you needed the answer most. If you haven’t heard from them in four or five days, FIRE YOUR TRAINER!!

3. Distractions

Classic problem in the training community… For many of us our entire lives are on our phones, but if your trainer is looking at their phone the whole time, they are not training you.  This is not to say a trainer shouldn’t use their phone at all. I use mine to time rests and intervals, keep notes on my clients, and refer to your plans DURING REST PERIODS ONLY. Let's quickly mention the vain trainer who is more in love with the mirror than you. That’s obnoxious and it shows they have something more important on their mind. Lastly, you have the trainer who knows everybody in the gym. There should not be one discussion with any individual other than the client during a training session. They are on your time which you paid for. If their eyes are not on you while you are executing your exercise, they are not paying attention to your form or your level of effort. FIRE YOUR TRAINER!!
